Summer Internship for the first year students is organized simultaneously with the final placement programme. Most companies tend to conduct their summer internship selections when they visit the campus for Pre Placement Talks (PPT) and final recruitment.
Summer Placement Process
Companies visit campus and hold group discussions and interviews to select the students.
Companies that are not able to visit the campus for summer recruitment have the option of selecting the students on the basis of the resume and telephone/video interviews. The resume of the interested students along with their application forms are collected and sent to the companies. The companies may then shortlist students for the final selection.
Companies are expected to pay a stipend to the summer trainees to cover their local living expenses. Expenses incurred on travel, boarding and lodging if involved in the project, are also to be reimbursed as per the organization's rules.
Companies are normally requested to communicate the project brief to the summer trainees at least 2 weeks in advance through the Placement Coordinator. This will provide the students an opportunity to discuss the project with the concerned faculty who is to mentor them and prepare themselves for the summer internship.
The internship is desired to be completed within 8-10 weeks. Generally the summer internship period starts from first week of April till second week of June.
Evaluation
Upon completion of the summer internship, the students make a presentation on the work done to the company and also submit a written report. The contents of this project are treated confidential. With the permission of the concerned company, the students are required to submit a copy of the report to the Institute and make a presentation to a panel of the faculty members. The supervisor of the internship programme at the company is requested to provide feedback on the performance of the trainee(s). Based on the project report, the presentation and the feed back of the supervisor, the student is then given feedback and evaluated for having successfully completed it.
